The Stunning 30’s Remington Model 5 + Streamliner
An Uncontested Classic from Typewriter History
Made in the USA by Remington between the year of 1934 to the late 30’s, these beauties couple timeless styling with utilitarian grace. Glorious gloss and flashing nickle or black key rims. (On either end of that time spectrum there were variations of these, which I don’t go into much).
There are variants throughout the production run, all of which are beautiful and functional.
Remington was one of the premier typewriter builders of the day.
I choose this shape and model for a few reasons:
Models before this iteration required the plywood case bottom as the base, which often deteriorates. After this style, the quality declines somewhat, and the style falls off of a cliff.
These are my favorite typewriter from history, visually speaking.
They are available in US QWERTY keyboards, and they hold up extraordinarily well to time.
We replace the rollers and rubber feet as needed, and condition or resurface the platens.
The serif typeface, which varies in size but is usually on the smaller, 12 character per inch size (12 point), has a beautiful vintage feel and even delivery. It’s also great for those that want to embellish the handmade quality, as the old slugs like this really leave their mark on the paper. Couples well with a silk ribbon.
We have an experienced service team that works on these for us, to ensure that they are in tip-top shape.
